Application of cobalt chromium molybdenum alloy introduced by the manufacturer

2019-08-12 15:25:43

[General description] CoNiCrMo alloy is one of the forged cobalt base alloys with potential. It was originally called MP35N. When stressed, it can have high corrosion resistance in seawater (containing chloride ions). Cold processing can increase the strength of the alloy, but cold processing has considerable difficulties, especially in manufacturing large devices, such as hip joint handle. Only hot forging is applicable.

The wear resistance of forged CoNiCrMo alloy is similar to that of cast CoCrMo alloy, which has the advantages of good fatigue resistance and high tensile strength. Therefore, it is suitable for applications in places that require a long life and will not fracture or stress fatigue, such as the artificial joint at the hip joint. This advantage is important for the difficult and expensive operation of deeply embedding the implant into the femoral bone marrow catheter.

The elastic modulus of cobalt base alloy does not change with the change of the maximum tensile strength. Its value ranges from 220 to 234 GPa, which is higher than that of other materials such as stainless steel.

CoCrMo alloy is particularly susceptible to work hardening, so the same manufacturing process as other metals cannot be used, but vacuum precision casting is required. Controlling the mold temperature can control the grain size of the casting. Coarse grains can be formed at higher temperatures, which will reduce the strength, but also can precipitate carbides that are far away and larger, which will reduce the brittleness of the material.

At present, the main domestic units that produce, research and promote cobalt chromium molybdenum alloy include the General Institute of Iron and Steel Research and Beijing Rongdian Metal Co., Ltd.
